Loved by practicing artists

Hundreds of artists have entrusted us with tens of thousands of artwork records.

Studio Notes by Keiran Brennan Hinton, an oil on linen painting
Valise has transformed how I think about and access my inventory and archive. It’s essentially my studio assistant that I couldn’t imagine operating without.

Garden Pot X by Future Retrieval, a patterned stoneware vessel
It doesn’t get easier than opening up Valise, building a quick collection, and sending a beautiful web link or PDF in minutes. Organizing studio inventory, double-checking a price, or finding information about a piece—it’s all right there.

The Preserved Ones by Bjarne Bare, an archival pigment print
Valise has proven an invaluable tool in my daily studio practice. It’s intuitive, fast, and solid. Sharing works is a breeze, as is keeping track of editions and sales records. I find myself accessing it daily, and so grateful for its existence.

Valise is built from our experience maintaining artwork archives. Even if you don’t use our software, we want you to benefit from lessons we’ve learned along the way.

Who’s behind Valise?

We’re a small, independent software company based in Toronto. We don’t take investor money so we can stay focused on building great software for artists that lasts for decades.

Portrait of Brian Sholis

Brian Sholis has worked in contemporary art for more than twenty five years—as an editor at Artforum and Aperture, a curator at the Cincinnati Art Museum, and as the executive director of a small nonprofit gallery. He’s also married to an artist—Valise’s first user.

Portrait of Ross Zurowski

Ross Zurowski has worked as a designer and developer at Facebook, on healthcare projects, and as the founding designer at several software security startups.
